The Scribes

This is a TRUE STORY.

The events depicted on this page are exactly as they occurred… SERIOUSLY!  Out of respect for the protagonists and their identities, nothing has been changed and everything is told exactly as it happened.

One half descended from a conservative Muslim background, the other half spawned from White Californian Liberals.  The tales they would one day spin have a unique twist on the underdog story.  They primarily write from the perspective of those that society has cast as “villains” and the “misunderstood”, (that would be the Muslim guys share of the pie).  But it’s balanced out with a healthy dose of “White guilt” (you can guess who brings that to the table).

As children of the 80’s, the two grew up in the dying embers of the Cold War.  After the Berlin wall fell, the only bad guys these two knew of was a shamed US President and a girl in a blue dress.

In 2001, Rachid and Leland had just met and were about to graduate from a small arts college in the South of England.  Their futures looked promising.  Leland would go on to live the comfortable existence his father and grandfather fought in two different wars to ensure he would have while Rachid would live a life with running water and electricity, a huge step up from the lives his parents left behind in the hills of Morocco.  These were simpler times.  Rachid and Leland didn’t yet know what a “Selfie” was.  A Kardashian to them was that greasy lawyer that helped get O.J. acquitted of double murder but most importantly; this was an age when the world was accepting of their newfound friendship.

But then the towers fell and the World would change forever.  In the course of few hours on that crisp September morning, Rachid’s faith, which he wore as a badge of honor would now brand him with the mark of Cain.  As for Leland, Fox News would have the young White American believe he had found his new boogieman.  These pals were to be pitted against each other in Rupert Murdoch’s new world order.

But as fate would have it for these two chums, Leland would fail his army basic training (yes, it is possible) and Rachid standing just shy of 5’7 was not so imposing and in no way could he align his identity with those responsible for such atrocities.  So together, using the power of story, they swore a Jihad on ignorance.  The dynamic duo would forge a pact of a non-violent assault, where the pen would prove mightier than the sword.  They vowed to bring insight to the injustice and hypocrisy that continues to thrive in both the Western and Islamist narratives.

The two now fittingly reside in Manhattan, continuing their crusade.

PS No Animals were harmed in the making of these two individuals… not yet!

He is excited to be embarking on this next chapter of his artistic life as a Writer/Producer, where as a western Muslim male of Arab descent, he hopes to offer an alternative voice to the mainstream narrative.
